This page will be pictures and information on my chicks that came directly from Gary Underwood.
These chicks were hatched Feb 10-11/2013 I received them 2/12/13. I am so proud to have gotten these babies directly from Gary. It is coming up on 100 yrs. (2014) for the Underwood line of RIR's.

1/17/2013 I sent payment to Gary Underwood for 20 chicks that are to be sent to me Feb, - Mar. After a little over 2 years of trying to find a way to contact Gary Underwood I finally succeeded. Sent him an email and he replied and I am so very happy that I will be getting these little ones.
2/12/2013 Hatched 2/10-11/2013 Received my little bundle of fuzzy butts from Gary today. Oh how sweet they are. I am so glad to have these. They sure are dark little guys. Pictured below just a few hours after getting them. Received 25 of these little guys/gals but I don't think that 2 are going to make it. I sure do hate it when something goes wrong with these sweet little creatures but that is a long way for day old babies to travel in a little dark box all alone. It's just so amazing what they will look like in a few weeks then months. Upon arrival, 2 of these little guys didn't make the trip to well. The one perked up after a few dips of his beak in some sugar water but the other little one didn't make it. That still leaves me with 24. That will be more then enough to get a very good start with this line. Especially since I have 12 others that are exactly 3 months older. Thanks to Jim Heinz and Gary Underwood.
3/10/2013 Well gee whiz, I finally got these little ones moved to the basement in a 3'x 6' pen where they will be for a couple of weeks or so then hopefully it will be warm enough to move them outside. This winter has been really hectic here in Pa. They are 1 month old today. They sure have grown fast. If these and the ones that I got from Jim Heinz all make it, I will have 36 nice Underwood birds to do my choosing from for keepers. Sure hope that I have as good a ratio of cockerels to pullets in this bunch.
3/23/2013 6/weeks These little guys are feathering in nicely and getting as dark as their cousins on the other Underwood Page. Sure do like these birds.
4/6/2013 8 weeks old today. Just moved them into their second grow out area. I really haven't checked to see how many of these I think may be pullets or cockerels. I've raised all 24 so far. Gee, I will have quite a few Underwood's to choose from.
4/13/2013 9 week old Underwood's Again, mostly pullets from this group. I'm sure not complaining.
4/24/3013 10 1/2 weeks old today. Just got them out of the basement and moved them to their coop. This is where they will be until they are old enough to put in with the group from Jim Heinz then they will be moved the last time. I have 21 of these and I think there are 5 cockerels 16 pullets. Not 100% sure yet. There may be another cockerel or two. This will be the last pictures for a while. I will keep them penned in till next week then they can go out into their run.
6/4/2013 These are the young from Gary Underwood. SC's 16 1/2 weeks old. When these reach 6 months, the pullets will be put in with the pullets from Jim Heinz that are 3 months older. If I have 2 roos in this bunch that are as nice as the one older one then I will put them in with the girls and take out the one that I have in there now. That way I won't have fighting.
7/5/2013 These birds were 20 weeks Jun 30th, last Sunday. What I'm really noticing on these birds as my older ones is the long straight backs and most are already showing good width. Most have the dark horn beaks and on legs and feet/toes. They have good color, the pullets have nice black tails most without any lacing on tail feathers. I think these girls and guys are going to be really nice.
The last three pictures were taken 7/11/13 This cockerel will be one of my keepers and I haven't decided on the second on yet.

8/2/2013 24 weeks 5 days old today. These are the SC that I got directly from Gary Underwood. Getting pretty nice. Pictures below are of the same cockerel. Pictures 4 and 6 I took to show the width of back on this boy. A couple extra spikes on the comb but it will have to do for now. Other then that, he is pretty nice. Pullets in 2nd pic are getting pretty nice with nice long bodies, straight backs and I like the broadness of their heads.
8/13/2013 These will be the last pictures for a while. They are 6 months 3 days old today. They will be put in with my 9 month old girls shortly.
8/31/2013 These birds are 30 weeks old today and they gave me a nice surprise. Their first eggs. First picture the 3 eggs on the right are from these girls. Second picture the 3 eggs on left are from them.
