The picture below was taken 8/29/2013 I kind of like this boy. lol
Hatched 11-10-2012
Someone called me ans ask about the color on the wings and the quill coloring. On the quill, the dark color runs all the way to the skin where the feather goes in the body. Both upper and lower side are the same color.
Grandpap RC from Mr. Heinz
WOW, got email from Jim Heinz today with this picture attached. This is the dad of my RC birds. I was really tickled to get this. I just love having the parents pictures of my birds to compare. Thanks so much Jim
My main thing to be working with with this RC line is to keep them separated from the SC's and be able to have good rose combs on all the chicks.
This pullet isn't cushioned on her back, she just walked under that perch and I had to hurry to get the picture. lol Just wanted to get a shot to show how nice they are in body length and overall size. They are really nice birds.
This is from an email that I got. I just had to post it. This really did tickle me. lol Love getting messages like this about my birds. lol

Old McDoanld
5/23/2013 Well, I can honestly say that these RC's from the Underwood line have already shown me that they are better layers then the Horstman line RC's that I had/have. These girls were 6 months old on the 10th of this month and they started laying on the 11th. I would get 1 egg then maybe a couple days later 1 egg then 2 eggs in a day or so. Today, I got 3 eggs from the 3 girls. I've gotten probably 15 eggs so far. I haven't really kept records of them yet since pullets start and miss for the first week or so. I think I will start keeping track now. At least now I know they are all laying since I got 3 today and only have 3 pullets. I'm really pleased with these girls. At least now I know I can set some of these later this year to get a better start with the Underwood RC's.
Also, although these are pullet sized eggs right now, they are more like the old time eggs in color. A little lighter right now but it seems they are starting to get a little darker as the days go on.

6/4/2013 Just had to add a few shots of these birds since I was out taking pictures. lol The picture of the hen with the white on her head is the one that got caught on a nail and of course when it was bleeding the others had to start picking on her. I am so glad that I caught her in time. The feathers are all growing back in and she like the others has started to lay. She will always be a special hen to me. She is a SC but runs loose and always stays around the pen where the RC's are in. These birds are sure something special to me.
These cock birds are 2 different birds.

6/19/2013 These birds just seem to keep getting bigger and bigger. I surely am proud to own these RC RIR's from the Underwood line. I do have some of their eggs under a broody hen. Don't know for sure if they will hatch but I'm sure hoping for some nice young from these. These were 7 months on the 10th. I have two cockerels and 3 pullets of these right now.
8/14/2013 Trying to get a couple really good shots of my RC. They are now 9 months 4 days old and are the parents of the babies below.
This is copied/pasted comment from BYC Member Bob Blosl. It is pertaining to the far right picture above. This is one heck of a Rose Comb Red Male. I think to my eyes he is the best male next to Arians' males fro Texas I saw last year in a group picture I have seen in 20 years. I had a male like this from Gary about 25 years ago when he gave me five dozen eggs when I lived in Wisconsin.
Thanks for posting these pictures this is a classic example of what a Heritage Rhode Island Red Rose Comb male should look like.
No buddy will ever see something like this at the local feed store chick display in the spring. LURKERS WHO SAY I HAVE RI REDS DO THEY LOOK LIKE THIS GUY? If not you don't have pure Rhode Island Reds.
May the gods in red heaven keep this line going for ever.
Below is post from Bob Gilbert, APA judge and breeder. Gosh, I have to get a bigger hat to fit my swollen head. lol
Bob Gilbert the best back on a Rose Combed Red that I've ever seen!
