"The story of the Underwood Birds from the Beginning."
We hear a lot of talk from folks on the forums about different lines and it's not always true. I figured the best way to get the true story is to get it as the old saying goes, "Straight from the horses mouth." I love reading this article. Jim
This is what I got back from Gary.
Jimmy,
Thanks for the nice words and your email! May have some chicks later after the first of the year.
Gary

Good afternoon Mr. Underwood,
My name is Jim Rankin, I live in Pa. about 65 miles south of Pittsburgh. I have been searching for a little over 2 years trying to find your email or some way to get in contact with you and just this morning came across a breeders listing and found this email. I'm sure hoping that you are the right person.
Almost 2 years ago I came across a site that had some of your Rhode Island Reds and I had read so much about you and your dad that I really did want to get some of these birds. Anyway, the person was Trish Dusil. I emailed her and sent her money to get some chicks but she was having trouble getting good hatches or something that it ended up that I didn't get any chicks until April of 2012. Oh my, they sure were worth waiting for. I only ended up getting 8 or 10 and out of these I ony ended up with 1 very nice pullet. I want you to know that I'm not saying anything against Trish or your line of birds, it's just that something happened with this group of chicks.
I came across a posting on BYC where a fella had gotten most of Trish's stock this past fall and I emailed him (Jim Heinz) and he so graciously sent me 18 eggs. I put them in my incubator and of the 18, 15 made it to lock down and of the 15, 12 hatched. These will be 3 weeks old Saturday and I still have all 12 of them. I'm almost 100% sure that I've gotten 6 RC and 6 SC out of this hatch. Not bad huh?
I saw a week or so ago the posting that Jim had put on BYC of your winning RC Cock bird and a hen that Jim had won with. I'm just wondering if you sell any eggs or chicks from your birds and if so would you let me know the price etc.
I would also just love to have a couple pictures of your RC and SC birds if you would send me a couple and would you allow me to post them on my site as the foundation of where my birds came from?
I can't tell you how happy I was to come across the site that had this email address. I will never be a pest toward you and if you don't sell eggs or chicks I won't bother you again about this. I am just so very excited to have gotten the eggs from Jim Heinz and wanted you to know what an honor and priviledge it is for me to have the Underwood line of RIR's.
Jim
P.S. If you are not the Gary Underwood that breeds the RIR's, please forgive me for this email.
Jimmy,
Thanks for the nice words and your email! May have some chicks later after the first of the year.

I'll need to get a picture of the Reserve Variety Rose Comb pullet. I didn't take one at the show but she came home with me.
