This page is being set up to record my work with these Reese/Mohawk birds from Matt. Some say the Reese birds are no more, some even say there is no Mohawk line. Well, I will go along with what my friend Bob Blosl said and I guess I can call them whatever I please. These are my Matt's Reese/Mohawk line of Rhode Island Red's. Below are my little ones hatched 4/1 - 4/2 2014 I just have to add that today is 4/19 and I started saving eggs from these 4 girls on 4/15 and in 5 days I've gotten 15 eggs. I am more pleased with the laying ability of these birds from Matt then I could ever say. I'm hoping to hatch enough of these to use any/all the hens that I cull as my layer flock. I don't know how they will do in the winter but as of right now other then the Nelson's I would say that they are the best of any line I've had. The Nelson's are as good on the laying end. I've never shown poultry but it is my honest opinion that this line would be top of the line in the show world.
5/6/2014 Parent birds of my Reese/Mohawk chicks hatched 2014. The parent flock is directly from Matt Ulrich. Oh my do I ever love thee birds. Super lookers and excellent layers. Thanks a million Matt.
4/1/2014 Had 5 of these hatch.
4/16/2014 The above little ones are growing like bad weeds. I have 32 more eggs in bator due to hatch Easter Sunday. I am so excited over these birds. I can't thank Matt enough for my start with these. Will be posting update Friday about lock down then pictures of hatchlings. If this hatch goes good, part of these will be on their way to Indiana 4/21. That is it, I'm not placing any more of these. I also sent out 16 of these eggs out to a fella in Texas.
4/17/2014 Well, candled these 32 eggs while putting them into lock down. 5 eggs were clear, 1 had blood ring and 26 look really good. Chewing fingers till Sunday. lol I'm really hoping for a good hatch. Getting ready to put another batch in bator in a day or two.
4/19/2014 11:45 PM looked in on the these eggs before getting ready for bed and had first pip. I was beginning to get a little concerned because usually I have a couple of biddies popped out on day 20 and they usually finish on day 21 but I think I figured this batch a day early. I usually wait till I put the one bunch in brooder before I set the next bunch of eggs but I was in a little bit of a hurry with this bunch and think I miss calculated my hatch date by 1 day. lol If I get a good hatch out of these I will be so overly excited. I have another batch to set in a few days.
4/21/2014 Well, it had to be that I was a day ahead on my counting. These babies started popping out last night and are still hatching. Don't know for sure how many have hatched so far but these will be going on their journey tomorrow morning.
I just got done setting another 21 eggs in my Brinsea. Yes, I did mark this all down this time. lol I'm not doing that again. This is my last setting of any eggs this year.
Will be posting a few pictures tomorrow of what has hatched just before sending them off to their new home. Will be praying that they have a safe journey. I just hate to see these litle things in a box and being shipped off.

4/22/2014 Here they are all packed up and ready for their journey to their new home. I'm sure hoping that God keeps his hands upon this little box of babies. After all they are one of his creations. It just amazes me how I can gather eggs and put them in an incubator and in 20 - 21 days these little miracles pop out. Again I have to say, "Thank you Jesus just for being YOU."
5/3/2014 Here they are, these little guys made the trip to Illinois to a young man who has become pretty special to me. He is as crazy over this line as I am. I'm sure they will be getting all the TLC that they deserve. Hopefully he will be getting a few more in about another week.
5/6/2014 5 week old chicks from above stock.
5/9/2014 Got 21 eggs in incubator due to go into lock down tonight. Oh my, I'm sure hoping for a super hatch with these eggs. If I have a good enough hatch, these will be leaving for there new home Tuesday. Fingernails about gone. lol
5/11/2014 17 of the 21 eggs went into lock down. These are due to hatch 5/12 but as usual mine always seem to start the night before. As of right now there are 3 out. Sure hope to find a bunch in there come tomorrow morning. These will be leaving for Illinois Tuesday. I put 17 eggs in the Brinsea and these will be staying with me. This is for sure the last for this year.
5/13/2014 Packed up and ready to go. Another one hatched about 10 - 10:30 this morning so I couldn't send it and then another one between 6 - 7:30 this evening. One more appears to have a pip also. Guess I'll just leave these eggs in there and see what happens. lol
5/16 Oh my, this was the most nerve racking thing I think I have done with chicks. I mailed these out Tuesday, USPS said they would be there by 3 PM Thursday and they never got to destination until Friday morning. Thank God that all were fine. This just drives me crazy. I just want to openly say, "Thank You Jesus for keeping these little guys safe."

5/14/2014 These are late bloomers . One hatched just an hour or so before I boxed up the ones to ship so I was afraid to put it in the box to send and the other one hatched out late last night. I will be keeping these. lol Had 12 hatch out of 17 eggs.
5/26/2014 Oh my gosh. I had 13 eggs under this little Olive Egger Broody hen. I noticed Friday that one egg had gotten broken. She was due to hatch 5/25 and when I went to feed Saturday, she came off the nest and I checked her eggs and not one was pipped so I just figured that she wasn't going to hatch anything. Oh my, what a surprise I got last night when I went to feed and found a little one in her nest. I don't know yet how many she has hatched or will hatch but I saw 3 or 4 coming out from underneath her this morning. lol It has been probably 50+ years since I've had a broody hen hatch. I'm so glad that I did set her and from now on I will be using my broody hens to hatch eggs. Well, I ended up with 8 babies out of 12 eggs. I'm totally satisfied. lol I just love the third picture. So sweet. Last picture is after I moved her outside to her new pen.
5/28/2014 3 days old and still have all 8 of these little gold nuggets. I know they are red's but they are worth their weight in gold to me. ha,ha. These little ones sure do love being outside and having a ball scratching in the dirt, grass and weeds. I can hardly stay away from them. Being raised on a farm with all kinds of animals, I just love seeing these little babies when first born no matter what they are.
7/23/2014 Just a couple of pictures of these above birds 7/18 making them almost 8 weeks old. They are really getting nice.
5/31/2014 The 17 eggs that I had in incubator, 13 went into lock down and 1 has hatched this afternoon. They are due tomorrow but I almost always have one or two early birds. lol Will post a picture or so when they are done. I am going to try to slip them under a broody hen. Don't know for sure if it will work or not. lol
Hatched 10 of these 6/1 but 2 didn't make it. This was really a strange hatch. Will post a few pictures a little later.
Two of these didn't hatch good, they did not draw the yokes in all the way and died before removing them from the incubator. I do have 8 of these doing super great. They are 12 days old on the pictures below. This gives me 23 if they all make it to work with for next year.
