This is what I start all my chicks on. I also add a tablespoon or two of ACV per quart of water. This comes from my local TSC
11/18/2012 These are my absolutely gorgeous Gary Underwood line chicks
These little guys were hatched 11/9-10/2012. They are one week old on this picture. These eggs have turned out to be the best investment in eggs that I have ever made. The eggs came from Jim Heinz and gave me my start with both the SC and RC Underwood line RIR's.
Thanks so much Jim

8/14/2013 3 little sweeties. This is my second batch of chicks from the above chicks as grownups. lol Ten went to W.Va. already. These are the RC Underwood's.
8/21/2013 These little Nelson kids were due to hatch today. 2 of them got in a hurry as usual and popped out of the eggs yesterday. I only set 5 eggs, 1 was clear so 4 went into lock down and 4 hatched. lol Not to shabby. Will post pic's later tonight or tomorrow when I put them in the brooder box with the little week old Underwood RC's. I just moved these little ones from the hatcher to brooder box. lol
One of these little ones didn't make it. It hatched just fine but something happened through the night. Oh well, God knows best.

9/11/2013 3 weeks old today. Spoiled little turds. lol I thought I had three Nelson chicks but these and the RC Underwoods were hatched together and one of these three was a RC so it has to be the Underwood egg. lol
Oh well, I needed a few more of the Nelson babies Hoping they would all be pullets but I don't know yet. lol

4/2/2014 Gee whiz, what a hatch. I set 34 eggs, 15 looked really good. 7 were Nelson's which only 3 hatched, 7 were Reese which 5 hatched, and only 1 of the RC Underwood's were fertile and it was the first to hatch. The top row and first photo on bottom left are my Matt's Reese birds, The last two photo's are the little RC Underwood and 3 Nelson's. The Underwood is the one with the really dark beak.
I have more of the Reese due to hatch Easter Sunday. I hope I have a little better luck with them.

First hatch for this year. I'm only hatching a few for myself because I sure don't want to loose this old bloodline. I only kept one of my little incubators when I decided that I wasn't selling any more hatching eggs or day old chicks. These little guys sure are dark.

5/21/2015 Above chicks went to my dear friends Brent/Katie Boyd. I put eggs in the bator from a group that I will be working on for the next few years. A new project. below are a couple of pictures of them at 3 days old. I had a broody setting on 12 eggs and was due to hatch this coming Sunday and after 17 days of hard setting she decided that she didn't want to be a momma. I brought her eggs up to the house and put them in my small bator. Candled them first and every egg has a chick in and I'm hoping they didn't get to cold before retrieving them. Just really has me sick that that happened. One thing, I don't have to long to wait. If these hatch I sure will be surprised and overly excited.
5/23/15 Oh wow! there are a couple of the eggs from the broody with pips in them. Fingers crossed very tightly. lol
Oh my, speaking of bad luck. Now the stupid incubator is quitting on me. The temperature is messing all up. Even with turning the selector up on it the temp will not raise. It has dropped to 80's and won't come back up. I guess I am just not supposed to have this hatch. This is it for me for this year. Good or bad, I will not set any more eggs this year. I've thrown in the towel.
